What Is MBK Dayton and Why It Matters
At MBK Dayton, we are on a mission to empower boys and young men of color, ensuring they have access to the opportunities, resources, and support needed to thrive. Our work is rooted in the belief that every young person deserves a fair chance to reach their full potential. By addressing systemic challenges and building sustainable community support, MBK Dayton is creating pathways to success and brighter futures for all.
What MBK Dayton Stands For
MBK Dayton is part of the My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) national initiative launched by President Barack Obama in 2014. MBK (My Brother’s Keeper) was created to eliminate opportunity gaps and improve life outcomes for boys and young men of color. In Dayton, our chapter is committed to turning this vision into reality through programs and partnerships that focus on education, mentorship, employment, and leadership development.
At its core, MBK Dayton stands for progress, equity, and community action. We believe that when young men of color are supported and empowered, their success not only transforms their lives but also uplifts their families, neighborhoods, and the broader community.
The Challenges Young Men of Color Face
Boys and young men of color face unique challenges that often hinder their ability to succeed. These challenges include:
Disparities in education and access to resources.
Limited mentorship and positive role models.
Systemic barriers to employment and career development.
Exposure to violence, poverty, and lack of community investment.
These barriers are not insurmountable, but addressing them requires focused, intentional efforts. That’s where MBK Dayton comes in. Our programs are designed to meet youth where they are, provide tools for success, and create supportive environments that foster growth. Whether it’s helping students graduate high school, connecting youth with mentors, or preparing them for meaningful employment, MBK Dayton is committed to tackling these challenges head-on.
How MBK Dayton Makes a Difference
MBK Dayton takes a community-centered approach to change. We work alongside schools, community leaders, local organizations, and families to provide the necessary resources and opportunities for boys and young men of color to succeed. Some of our key initiatives include:
Education Support: Ensuring that youth graduate high school and pursue post-secondary education or training.
Mentorship Programs: Connecting youth with positive role models who guide and inspire them.
Workforce Development: Providing access to job training, internships, and employment opportunities.
Community Engagement: Creating safe, inclusive spaces where young men feel seen, supported, and valued.
Through these efforts, MBK Dayton is not only changing individual lives but also fostering a more equitable and empowered community.
